AccessVision Wins Regional Award

Each year, the Alliance For Community Media Central States Region salutes the best community programming with a video contest, the Philo Festival Of Media Arts Video Competition. AccessVision, the Battle Creek area's community television facility, has once again been honored for its programming with a "Philo" award.

AccessVision Projects Coordinator Jason Augenstein was a Winner in the Promotional Video (3:00 Or Less) Professional category for “The First Tee Learning Academy.” This short video was made to promote The First Tee of Battle Creek, the local chapter of an international nonprofit youth development organization that strives to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character and instill life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

“It’s exciting for AccessVision to have received this regional award for excellence, making this the 26th year in a row of receiving this kind of recognition,” according to AccessVision’s Executive Director, Dale Geminder. “This speaks highly of the quality of work done by our staff and volunteers.”

With over 250 entries in categories including community event, original short film, public service announcement, government coverage and many more, winners were honored at an awards ceremony held at Lake Orion (between Detroit and Flint) on October 20th.

The Philos are a recognition of excellence in non-commercial cable access programming. The awards are named after Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of the first receiving tube for television transmissions.

Since 1989, AccessVision has provided citizens of the Battle Creek area with production equipment, training and support services for the creation of locally produced, non-commercial television programs. In that time, the facility and its volunteer producers have won over 130 national and regional awards for their TV programs, which are cablecast on Comcast channels 16 & 17 and digital cable channels 916 & 917, on ATT&T U-verse channel 99 and streamed online at www.accessvision.tv.
