AccessVision Wins Regional Award

Each year, the Alliance For Community Media Central States Region (Michigan, Indiana, Ohio & Kentucky) salutes the best community programming with a video contest, the Philo Festival Of Media Arts Video Competition. AccessVision has once again been honored with a "Philo" award for a video created by its staff.

AccessVision Production Manager Jeffery Smith was a Finalist in the Special/Critical Announcement - Professional category for his public service announcement, “Stay Safe, Stay Home.”

Jeff created this PSA in late March of this year, to convey the message of Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order (EO 2020-21) directing all businesses to temporarily suspend unnecessary in-person operations, issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Philo Winners, Finalists and nominees will be recognized at a virtual awards ceremony held on October 29th.

“It’s exciting for AccessVision and the Greater Battle Creek Area to receive this award on behalf of our staff and the hundreds of volunteer producers who use AccessVision” according to AccessVision's Executive Director Dale Geminder. "This speaks highly of the quality of work done through AccessVision. AccessVision volunteers and staff have won at least one award annually for 30 consecutive years.”

With 200 entries in categories including community event, documentary, public service announcement, sports coverage and many more, the Philos are a recognition of excellence in non-commercial cable access programming. The awards are named after Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of the first receiving tube for television transmissions.
